Dana Point, CA. — Luis Adrian Morales-Pacheco, 13, of San Juan Capistrano, was killed Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run pedestrian collision in Dana Point, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. at Dana Point Harbor Drive and Park Lantern, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.
Deputies arrived to find the teenager suffering from severe injuries after a driver allegedly jumped a curb and struck him while he was walking to school with his brother, who was not injured.
Morales-Pacheco was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators identified the driver as Bradley Gene Funk, 59, of San Juan Capistrano. According to deputies, Funk fled the scene after hitting the teen, but witnesses helped authorities locate him two to three miles from the crash site.
Funk was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run, DUI, and second-degree murder due to a previous DUI conviction, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing.
