Chula Vista, CA. – A 42-year-old man was hospitalized after he was hit by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon at an intersection in Chula Vista.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the accident occurred around 5:20 p.m. at Third Avenue and Palomar Street.

Police officers and paramedics responded to the scene and found the pedestrian with serious injuries. The patient was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was crossing from east to west in a crosswalk against a red hand signal when he was hit by a silver 2012 Nissan Leaf traveling southbound on Third Avenue.

The 23-year-old woman driving the vehicle stopped and cooperated with the investigators.

Impairment was not considered to be a contributing factor.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
