, CA. – A 42-year-old man was hospitalized after he was hit by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon at an intersection in Chula Vista.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the accident occurred around 5:20 p.m. at Third Avenue and Palomar Street.

Police officers and paramedics responded to the scene and found the with serious injuries. The patient was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was crossing from east to west in a crosswalk against a red hand signal when he was hit by a silver 2012 Nissan Leaf traveling southbound on Third Avenue.

The 23-year-old woman driving the vehicle stopped and cooperated with the investigators.

Impairment was not considered to be a contributing factor.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
