Lompoc, CA – Authorities are investigating a big rig accident that left one person dead on Highway 1 near Lompoc on Tuesday afternoon.
At around 2 p.m. August 25, Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews were called to the scene of a crash near Jalama Road.
Initial reports indicate that a car and a big rig were involved in the accident. The two crashed on the highway for reasons yet to be established.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and made contact with the parties involved in the collision.
The driver of the car was declared deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased motorist was not immediately released.
The operator of the big rig, who also remained unnamed, was treated for minor injuries.
A section of Highway 1 was shut down for an unspecified duration as a result of the accident.
Authorities are still working to establish the exact circumstances of the collision.
