OSP officers responded to reports of a crash at about 3:53 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, on Highway 126 near milepost 52 and Fisher Road.

Lane County, OR – One person was killed and another was injured after three vehicles collided on Highway 126 in Lane County on Monday afternoon, according to the Oregon State Police.
OSP officers responded to reports of a crash at about 3:53 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, on Highway 126 near milepost 52 and Fisher Road.
According to OSP, John Michael Unrein, 46, of Springfield, was driving a red Mazda3 traveling westbound on Highway 126 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound white Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 51-year-old Gina Mae Nix of Veneta. The impact caused the Chevrolet to overturn, landing in the westbound lane. The Mazda continued traveling in the eastbound lane and then collided head-on with a red Hyundai Elantra, driven by 23-year-old Laura Valent Reales Gutierrez.
Unrein suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Reales Gutierrez sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Nix and an adult passenger in the Chevrolet were not injured
Oregon State Police troopers responded to the scene and were assisted by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Lane Fire Authority, Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash impacted Highway 126 for approximately four hours while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared the wreckage.
The deadly incident remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police.
