Josephine County, OR – One person was killed and another injured after a single-vehicle collision on Highway 199 in Josephine County early Wednesday morning, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash occurred on Highway 199 near milepost 10 at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2026.

Preliminary investigation shows a northbound Toyota Tundra swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway, lost control, and rolled multiple times along the shoulder before coming to rest on its roof.

A passenger in the vehicle, Teddie Dianne Tibbets (47) of Selma, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, Marisha Lynn Trainor (52) of Eugene, suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. There were no arrests reported.

According to the Oregon State Police, the collision was caused when the vehicle swerved to avoid an animal in the roadway.

Troopers from the Oregon State Police responded to the scene and conducted the investigation, assisted by Grants Pass Fire, Rural Metro, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Highway 199 was impacted for about one hour during the on-scene investigation and cleanup, leading to temporary delays in both directions.

The crash remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police as authorities continue to review contributing factors and the sequence of events.
