Hesperia, CA – 67-Year-Old Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Crash with Pickup Truck on Main Street

Hesperia, CA – A 67-year-old man suffered major injuries in a bicycle versus a pickup truck crash on Tuesday morning in Hesperia, authorities said.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:36 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, near the intersection of C Avenue and Main Street.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, David Ueland, 67, was riding a black and blue bicycle eastbound in the No. 2 Lane of Main Street. At the same time, Michael Walker, 84, of Apple Valley, was driving a black Dodge Ram 3500 eastbound in the adjacent No. 1 Lane.

Investigators said Ueland attempted to merge into the No. 1 Lane and sideswiped the truck’s rear passenger-side quarter panel. The impact threw the bicyclist onto the roadway.

First responders found Ueland lying in the eastbound lanes with a significant head laceration. He was transported to Hesperia Airport, where he was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

Authorities said neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected to have contributed to the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
