Green Valley, AZ.- One pedestrian was killed and another was hurt when they were hit by a vehicle on Interstate 19 in Green Valley Monday morning, according to a report by the Drexel Heights Fire District.
Just after 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, authorities received reports of an auto-pedestrian collision on I-19 at the Esperanza Road off-ramp.
According to the report, a vehicle struck a man and a woman who were attempting to walk across the southbound off-ramp.
The DHFD responded to the incident and helped the injured pedestrians. The victims were then transported to a hospital, where the woman was declared deceased. The man was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities later identified the deceased pedestrian as Barbara Jones, 74.
The driver involved in the accident was not suspected of impairment but was cited for causing serious bodily injuries by moving violation. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Drivers are required by law to exercise due care to avoid collisions with pedestrians. Pedestrians walking in marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections have the right of way. Furthermore, pedestrians attempting to cross outside of the crosswalks must yield to vehicle to avoid being hit.
