Encino, CA – Authorities have released the identity of a man who died in a multi-vehicle collision on Sunday evening in the Encino area.
According to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office, Yaroslav Ponomarenko, 41, of Granada Hills, was the victim of the collision that took place near Lindley Avenue and Victory Boulevard at around 6 p.m. on July 5.
A report by the Los Angeles Police Department indicates that a 35-year-old woman was driving west on Victory Boulevard when she failed to stop fora red light and crashed into a vehicle driven by Ponomarenko. At least two other vehicles were also invoved in the crash that downed a utility pole.
Firefighters responded to the scene and rendered aid to the involved parties. Ponomarenko was extricated from his vehicle and was declared deceased at the site of the collision.
The woman driving the first car was transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
It’s unclear whether alcohol or drugs played any role in the incident. There were no reports of any charges in connection with the crash.
The Los Angeles Police Department is conducting an investigation to establish the cause of the incident.
