Los Angeles, CA. – A driver died early Sunday morning after their vehicle slammed into a tree and caught fire near Griffith Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened shortly after midnight on the southbound 5 Freeway at the Colorado Street off-ramp.
The automobile was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The driver, who was the sole occupant, was unable to escape and died at the scene.
A SigAlert was issued, closing portions of the freeway as crews worked to clear the area.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
