Douglas County, WA – Five people were killed in a suspected DUI head-on crash on Highway 2 north of East Wenatchee Sunday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:39 p.m. Sunday, August 30, on eastbound Highway 2 about 11 miles north of East Wenatchee.

According to WSP, a 2014 Nissan Maxima was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with an oncoming Chevrolet Sonic. The Chevrolet was occupied by only its driver, while the Nissan carried four people.

The Chevrolet driver, a 77-year-old woman from Omak, was killed at the scene. The Nissan driver and its three passengers, all men, also died at the scene. One of the Nissan passengers was 35 years old.

Two Nissan occupants were not wearing seatbelts. The authorities have not released the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin.

WSP reported that drugs or alcohol were believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The fatal Douglas County crash remains under investigation.
