Covina Woman Dies in Collision on 5 Freeway in Bakersfield

According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck was reported around 3:10 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway near Valpredo Avenue.

Bakersfield, CA. – A 27-year-old Covina woman died in a collision involving a tractor that happened early Wednesday morning in Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck was reported around 3:10 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway near Valpredo Avenue.

Investigators said the Covina woman was driving a 2023 Kia Sorrento when, for an unknown reason, she stopped in the No. 1 lane.

At the same time, a 49-year-old Whitewater man was driving a 2025 International tractor in the southbound lanes.

As the tractor approached the stopped car, the driver was unable to avoid a collision.

The tractor crashed into the Kia, both vehicles coming to rest in the dirt center divider.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The big rig driver was not injured.

Authorities are investigating the collision, but said alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be contributing factors.
