Motorcycle involvement in serious collisions in Commerce has shown modest changes over recent years. According to California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) data, the number of victims killed or injured in motorcycle-involved fatal and injury collisions doubled from 3 in 2021 to 6 in 2023, even as total serious crash counts increased from 152 victims in 2021 to 164 in 2023. This modest rise in motorcycle victims reflects a relative increase in rider exposure or collision risk compared with other crash types in the city. In both years, Commerce’s ranking for motorcycle collision counts remained in the lower half of similar California cities (75th in 2021 and 66th in 2023), indicating that motorcycle crashes are a smaller share of overall serious collisions locally. Alcohol-involved and other vulnerability categories also rose modestly over the same period, while speed-related and nighttime collisions remained notable factors in the city’s broader traffic safety profile. These changes, though small in absolute numbers, underscore the need for continued attention to rider safety among all traffic safety efforts.
