Calaveras County, CA – Injuries were reported in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Thursday in Calaveras County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place on Highway 49 near Mokelumne Hill on Thursday, January 22.
According to the CHP, a dump truck hauling dirt was traveling northbound on the highway when it lost control and rolled over. It’s unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the truck.
The dump truck burst into flames and the dirt was scattered across the highway lanes. There was also fuel leak from the truck.
CHP officers and firefighters responded to the scene shortly after to help out the driver and clear the scene.
The driver was transported to a hospital with major injuries. The driver’s identity was not immediately released.
The highway was shut down hours as crews worked at scene and motorists were urged to find alternative routes. The scene was cleared as of 3:55 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol is still working to find out exactly what led up to the accident.
