The fatal collision occurred at approximately 3:18 a.m. Monday, August 31, on State Route 99 north of Broyles Road, north of Chico.

Butte County, CA – A 60-year-old Chico man was killed in a head-on crash involving a Nissan Altima and a Kenworth truck on State Route 99 near Chico early Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 3:18 a.m. Monday, August 31, on State Route 99 north of Broyles Road.
According to CHP, the Chico man was driving a 2019 Nissan Altima northbound when, for some reason, he crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2017 Kenworth truck tractor, operated by 54-year-old Jose L. Estrada Loza of Anderson.
When CHP officers and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found the Chico man trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters extricated him from the vehicle before he was transported to Enloe Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 5 a.m. His name has not been released.
Estrada Loza was not reported injured.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
