South Berkeley, CA– A man was hit and injured by a vehicle while riding a bicycle on Sacramento Street in South Berkeley on Friday afternoon, according to the Berkeley Police Department.
The incident took place in the 2800 block of Sacramento Street near Oregon Street at around 1:10 p.m. on July 24.
Investigators reported that a 66-year-old man was riding a bike across Sacramento Street when he was hit by a southbound vehicle. The impact threw the rider nearly 10 feet into the air.
The rider was initially unconscious after the accident. He was rushed to Highland Hospital for treatment of major injuries.
A section of Sacramento Street was shut down temporarily as authorities worked on the incident.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation.
