Authorities closed the freeway between the Military West and Southampton exits for several hours following the crash.

Benicia, CA – A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday evening on eastbound Interstate 780 near the Military West ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP began receiving reports shortly after 6 p.m. that a man in his 40s was walking in the traffic lanes of I-780. By 6:15 p.m., officers were notified that the pedestrian had been hit by at least one vehicle and had died from his injuries.
Authorities closed the freeway between the Military West and Southampton exits for several hours while they conducted their investigation.
The cause of the collision is still under review, and the identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released.
