The fatal crash occurred on eastbound I-40, west of the Iwo Jima Avenue undercrossing, at approximately 7:05 a.m. on December 16, 2025, when CHP officers responded to the scene.
According to CHP officials, Vincent Rodriguez, a 66-year-old resident of Barstow, was riding a 1992 Honda motorcycle eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, he veered to the right and struck orange construction cones within an active construction zone.
After the initial impact, investigators said the motorcycle continued toward the right shoulder, where it subsequently struck a construction vehicle parked on the shoulder of eastbound I-40. CHP confirmed that Rodriguez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and authorities did not announce any arrests in connection with the collision.
CHP officials stated that the investigation remains ongoing; however, driving under the influence was not initially suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to conduct the on-scene investigation, secure the active construction area, and document evidence related to the collision.
The crash impacted traffic along eastbound Interstate 40 in the Barstow area as authorities investigated the scene and worked within the construction zone.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol as officials continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly motorcycle crash.
