The crash occurred around 8:37 p.m. on December 14 in the 10000 block of Burlando Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Officials said the driver was traveling along Burlando Road when the vehicle exited the roadway for unknown reasons and overturned.

Kern County consistently exhibits a higher traffic fatality rate compared to both the state and national averages, particularly concerning pedestrians and at intersections. Data for 2017–2021 indicates that the county's fatality rate per 100,000 residents was nearly double the national rate. While recent data from early 2024 showed a decrease in overall fatal collisions in Bakersfield, injury-related collisions increased, indicating persistent safety challenges. Pedestrian fatalities remain a significant issue, with 55 reported in 2024, a notable increase that marks the fourth consecutive year with over 50 pedestrian deaths.
