, CA – A man died in a single-vehicle collision on New Year's Day after crashing into a tree in Bakersfield.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. near South 10th Street and B Street.

Police officers said a 39-year-old man from was driving a 2013 Honda Civic east on B Street when, for an unknown reason, he left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

The man died in the accident.

The CHP Buttonwillow Area Office is investigating the cause of the collision.
