Long Beach, CA – The authorities have released the identity of a bicyclist who was killed after colliding with a car at an intersection in Long Beach early this month.
The deceased cyclist was identified as Augustin Gallopa, 35, of Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department and County Medical Examiner.
The fatal collision happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6, in the area of East Fourth Street and Bonito Avenue.
Investigators said Gallopa was on a bicycle heading east on Fourth Street and was attempting to turn north on Bonito Avenue when he was struck by a 2021 BMW 330i operated by Ahkeyajahnique Owens, 24, of Long Beach.
Police said Owens was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
Gallopa was critically injured and was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
No further details were provided.
The police are investigating the accident.
