Anaheim, CA – One person is dead following a collision involving a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle on State Route 91 in Anaheim on Saturday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The collision occurred on SR-91 East, just west of S Weir Canyon Road, at approximately 7:03 PM on Monday, closing major lanes of the eastbound freeway.
Preliminary CHP information indicates a motorcycle traveling eastbound on SR-91 and a red four-door vehicle were involved in a collision in the #1 and #2 lanes near the Weir Canyon offramp. A second vehicle described as a blue Lexus SUV was also blocking the #2 lane shortly after the crash, with the motorcycle observed down on the roadway.
CHP logs show the motorcycle rider died at the scene. No other injuries were confirmed in the initial reports, and no arrests were mentioned in the incident log.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by CHP, with factors such as vehicle movements and rider control to be determined.
CHP and fire personnel responded quickly, declaring a SIG ALERT for all mainlines of SR-91 eastbound and shutting down the offramp and freeway lanes to conduct rescue, investigation, and traffic control.
The collision caused significant delays on eastbound SR-91, as traffic was diverted and lanes were blocked through much of the evening peak commute. The offramp and adjacent lanes remained closed into the late evening as the roadway was cleared.
The crash currently under investigation by CHP Commercial and Major Accident Investigation teams, and additional details will be released as available.
