8 Injured in Castro Valley Car Accident at Trader Joe’s on Redwood Road
Castro Valley, California (September 15, 2022) – Eight people were injured when a driver in a gray Toyota Avalon slammed into Trader Joe’s on Redwood Road in Castro Valley on Thursday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened just before 4 p.m. and involved an 88-year-old Hayward driver who accidentally accelerated into the store.
The vehicle came to a stop in the check-out-stand area.
Eight parties, including a store employee, were injured. Some of the injured parties were hit by debris from the collision.
One of the injured was a 5-year-old child.
CHP said four parties were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played a role in the incident.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.
The store was expected to be closed through Friday as the authorities investigated the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
