Bakersfield, CA– A passenger was killed after being ejected from a car in Bakersfield early Tuesday morning, police said.
The fatal incident happened at around 3:10 a.m. September 2 on Highway 99, north of David Road.
According to investigators, a 2000 Honda Accord was northbound on Highway 99 when it veered onto the east shoulder and struck a dirt berm.
The car lost control and rolled over before coming to rest in a dirt field.
The report said, an unrestrained 63-year-old female passenger was ejected from the Honda.
She landed in the dirt field east of Highway 99 and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
Authorities suspect the driver was asleep when the accident happened.
Drugs/alcohol were ruled out as the cause of the accident.
