Bakersfield, CA – 43-year-old Shane Voris was identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as the pedestrian who was hit and killed by multiple vehicles on Highway 99 in Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield man was involved in the accident around 1:48 a.m. on July 19, 2026, on southbound Highway 99 south of White Lane.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Voris entered the southbound lanes of the highway from the shoulder, directly into the path of a car, and was hit. While the pedestrian was still lying in the traffic lanes, he was hit by several other passing vehicles.
Emergency personnel pronounced Voris dead at the scene.

Bakersfield, CA – A man is dead after he was struck by several vehicles early Sunday morning on Highway 99 in Bakersfield.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the southbound lanes of the highway near White Lane after they received reports of a pedestrian being hit by multiple vehicles around 1:48 a.m. on July 19.
The officers found the pedestrian with fatal injuries. Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The officers established that the pedestrian walked from the shoulder into the southbound lanes of the highway, directly in front of a car. The vehicle hit the man, causing severe injuries. The victim was then hit by several other passing motorists as he lay in traffic lanes, sustaining additional injuries.
Multiple drivers involved in the accident stopped and cooperated with investigators.
CHP officers are investigating the possibility that several other drivers also hit the pedestrian and failed to stop.
