Santa Barbara, CA. – Two people were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a head-on collision on Highway 154 near Painted Cave Road, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway, involving a Subaru and a Tesla, one of which briefly caught fire, authorities reported.
The Subaru driver suffered major injuries, while the Tesla driver sustained moderate injuries.
Both victims were transported by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Two dogs inside the Tesla were unhurt and taken to the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter in Goleta.
Highway 154 was temporarily closed in both directions, with one lane reopening for alternating traffic about an hour later.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
