Santa Barbara, California (November 9, 2023) – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the teen girl who was struck and killed by a train in Santa Barbara on Monday morning.
Shylah Alexander, 16, was hit by a southbound Amtrak train in the 4500 block of Hollister Avenue at about 9 a.m. November 6.
According to the Santa Barbara Unified School District, Shylah was a student at San Marcos High School.

Teenage Girl Struck by Train and Killed Monday Morning Near Santa Barbara at Hollister Avenue
Santa Barbara, California (November 7, 2023) – A 16-year-old girl was struck and killed by a train near Santa Barbara on Monday, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 9 a.m. on November 6, deputies and other emergency personnel responded to the railroad tracks in the area of the 4500 block of Hollister Avenue, near the former Juvenile Hall.
According to the Sheriff’s office, it was not immediately clear whether the girl was struck by an Amtrak passenger train or a freight train.
The name of the teen girl was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The tracks were closed to train traffic for several hours as crews investigated the incident.
