A driver traveling southbound on I-5 reportedly lost control and crashed into the cable barrier

Mount Vernon, WA.- One person was killed in a collision near Mount Vernon on Saturday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The incident took place on Interstate 5 at about 11:15 p.m. March 22.
A driver traveling southbound on I-5 reportedly lost control and crashed into the cable barrier.
The vehicle then came to a rest in the second lane and was hit by another vehicle.
A third vehicle traveling through the area also crashed into the second vehicle, which had stopped facing the wrong way.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 39-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An 18-year-old female passenger in that vehicle was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital with unspecified injuries.
I-5 southbound was shut down as authorities worked clear the scene.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
