Wrong-Way Driver Killed, Father and Son Hospitalized After Crash on Highway 99 in Turlock

Turlock, California (June 20, 2023) – Update: 37-year-old Thomas Guerrero and his 6-year-old son were hospitalized after a wrong-way driver crashed head-on into their Tesla early Tuesday morning in Turlock, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said Guerrero, of Escalon, was driving a Tesla northbound on Highway 99 with his 6-year-old son as his passenger.
At the same time, a man in a white sedan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway.
At around 3:15 a.m., the wrong-way sedan collided head-on with the Tesla just north of Lander Avenue.
The sedan overturned onto its side and caught fire.
Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.
The man inside the burned vehicle was pronounced dead.
Guerrero was taken to the hospital with major injuries. His son was airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera with moderate injuries.
Police believe the driver of the sedan was driving under the influence of alcohol.
An investigation is ongoing.

Turlock, California (June 20, 2023) – The California Highway Patrol said one person was killed, and a child was injured in a fiery car collision involving a wrong-way driver early Tuesday morning in Turlock.
The collision occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on northbound Highway 99 near Lander Avenue.
Authorities received several 911 calls reporting a fiery head-on collision and responded to the scene minutes later.
The responders found at least two cars involved in the crash, one of them on fire.
One of the vehicles was occupied by a male and a child.
CHP said one person died at the scene, and a child was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
No other details were given, but CHP officers are investigating.
