The accident happened around 2:31 a.m. on October 4, 2026, on Highway 4 east of Contra Loma Boulevard.

Antioch, CA – A 20-year-old passenger was hit and killed by two vehicles after she exited her vehicle to search for a lost phone in Highway 4 traffic lanes in Antioch early Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 2:31 a.m. on October 4, 2026, on Highway 4 east of Contra Loma Boulevard.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the 20-year-old woman was a passenger in a car traveling eastbound and was reportedly holding her cell phone outside the vehicle, filming a video of some kind. The woman dropped the phone onto the roadway.
The vehicle pulled over in the center median, and the woman exited and walked into traffic lanes in an attempt to retrieve the phone.
The pedestrian was struck by two vehicles and sustained fatal injuries.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The drivers of the two vehicles that hit her stopped and remained at the scene.
Highway 4 just east of Contra Loma Boulevard was closed for more than two hours during the investigation.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.
