Klamath County, OR – A man was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 in Klamath County, according to Oregon State Police.
OSP identified the deceased party as David Wayne Slone, a 27-year-old resident of Chiloquin.
The crash was reported at approximately 9:12 p.m. on September 20, 2026, near milepost 255 on Highway 97.
As per the OSP, David Slone was driving a blue Lincoln Navigator southbound when he attempted to pass another southbound vehicle. During the maneuver, the Lincoln collided head-on with a northbound Freightliner semi-truck pulling a 53-foot trailer.
Slone was pronounced dead at the scene. Oregon State Police said Slone was not wearing a seat belt. The Freightliner driver, Narinder Addr Singh, 33, of Yuba City, California, was not injured. A passenger in the Lincoln sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Investigators said impairment and speed are believed to have contributed to the crash.
Oregon State Police responded to the scene with assistance from Chiloquin Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Highway 97 was affected for approximately four hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the crash site.
The incident remains under investigation.
