Merced, CA – An elderly man was fatally hit by an ambulance while riding a scooter on Friday afternoon in Merced, according to the Merced Police Department.
The accident happened near G and 21st streets on Friday, September 4.
According to investigators, a 70-year-old man riding a scooter entered the roadway, for unknown reasons, and was hit by the ambulance.
The ambulance was not responding to a call at the time of the accident, police reported.
The victim, whose identity was not released, was killed in the collision.
The driver of the ambulance and a passenger, who was not a patient, were uninjured and stayed at the scene.
Drugs and alcohol were not suspected to have played a role in the incident.
The accident is under investigation and more details are expected to be released.
