Bakersfield, CA – 1 Person Killed in Car Collision on State Route 58 near Fairfax Road

Bakersfield, CA – One person died in a traffic collision that took place Thursday morning in Bakersfield, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident took place around 11:33 a.m. on August 20, 2026, on westbound State Route 58, just east of Fairfax Road.

According to CHP logs, a large black trash can in the No. 2 lane allegedly caused at least two vehicles to collide as drivers tried to avoid it. There was also a report of a white pickup truck that had lost an item and was stopped in the area.

The Kern County Fire Department responded to the scene and found at least three vehicles stopped there.

The firefighters administered CPR to one person who sustained severe injuries. The patient died from their injuries.
