Bakersfield, CA. – 8-year-old Xxavian Hernandez was killed and his father was hospitalized after they were struck by a suspected DUI driver Monday afternoon on East California Avenue, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The crash happened around 12:09 p.m. when a black Nissan pickup traveling westbound on East California Avenue veered off the roadway, crashed through a fence, and struck a man and his son in a parking lot where a food truck was stationed.
Both victims were taken to a hospital, where Hernandez died early Tuesday morning.
His father remains hospitalized with moderate injuries.

Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Andres Serna, who was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Serna, who has two prior DUI convictions, suffered minor injuries and was later arrested on various charges, including murder and felony DUI.

Bakersfield, CA.– The boy who was critically injured in an accident involving a suspected DUI motorist in East Bakersfield Monday afternoon has succumbed to his injuries, according to the Bakersfield police.
The incident was reported at about 12:09 p.m. November 3, in the 1400 block of East California Avenue near Haley Street.
According investigators, a pickup truck traveling west on East California Avenue lost control and slammed through a fence.
The truck drove into a parking lot, where it hit a father and his 8-year-old son near a food truck.
The boy suffered critical injuries while the father had moderate injuries. They were both rushed to a hospital, where the boy died on Tuesday morning.
The truck driver, Andres Serna, 33, was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
He faces multiple charges including second-degree murder, DUI causing injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and attempted hit-and-run.
The Bakersfield Police Department is handling the investigation.
