Bakersfield, CA. – 26-year-old Zacarias Ecahua Chipahua of Lamont died in a hit-and-run accident that happened earlier this month at an intersection in Bakersfield, the Kern County Coroner's Office reported.
The wreck occurred around 5:18 a.m. on October 2 at South H Street and Houghton Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Chipahua was a passenger in a 2011 Chevrolet Impala attempting to turn at the intersection when a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck ran a stop sign at the corner and hit the Impala.
The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene on foot.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Chipahua dead at the scene.
Another passenger in the Impala, 1 45-year-old adult, was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The 33-year-old man driving the Impala suffered minor injuries.

Bakersfield, CA.- One person was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Bakersfield on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on South H Street and Houghton Road at around 5:18 a.m. October 2.
According to the report, a 33-year-old man was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Houghton Road when he tried to make a turn onto south H Street.
A white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado heading east on Houghton Road failed to stop for a stop sign and crashed into the right side of the Impala.
The Impla rolled onto its side and came to a rest on eastbound Houghton Road.
A 26-year-old man riding as a passenger in the Impala was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Another passenger, a 45-year-old, was taken to Kern Medical with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Impala was treated for minor injuries.
The male driver of the Silverado left the scene on foot and remains at large.
The Bakersfield Area CHP Office is handling the investigation.
