Perris, CA. – A Moreno Valley woman who was killed in a car crash early Sunday morning in Perris has been identified.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 12:22 a.m. on the northbound Escondido (215) Freeway north of the Ramona Expressway.

A 2008 Mazda 3 was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control, left the roadway, and crashed into the guardrail in the center median.

The Mazda overturned onto its roof and was struck by a passing 2015 Ford Explorer.

24-year-old Valerie Martinez was ejected from the Mazda and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second occupant of the Mazda sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Ford and their passenger were uninjured.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
