Investigators reported that a vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the freeway at 80 mph when it was involved in a collision with at least two other vehicles

Hawthorne, CA – One person was killed in a collision involving a wrong-way driver early Tuesday morning in Hawthorne, according to California Highway Patrol logs.
The accident took place on the 405 Freeway near Imperial Highway at around 12:49 a.m. July 31.
Investigators reported that a vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the freeway at 80 mph when it was involved in a collision with at least two other vehicles.
After the crash, one of the vehicles drifted onto the right shoulder of the freeway and burst into flames while the other vehicle came to a rest in the HOV lane.
According to the CHP report, one person was declared deceased at the scene. There was no update on the condition of other involved parties.
The accident caused closures on the northbound freeway as authorities investigated the incident and firefighters cleared the scene.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating to establish the cause of the collision.
