Scottsdale, AZ – One person was killed and several others hospitalized after a chain-reaction collision that happened at an intersection in Scottsdale on Tuesday evening.

The Scottsdale Police Department reported that the incident took place in the area of Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard at about 4:45 p.m. July 14.

Preliminary reports indicate that five vehicles headed south on Scottsdale Road were stopped for a red light at the intersection when a sixth vehicle failed to stop in time.

The sixth car slammed into one of the vehicles and the impact set off a chain-reaction collision involving the other four stopped vehicles.

Scottsdale police and emergency personnel responded to the site of the accident and attended to at least five people injured in the collision.

The five patients were transported to a hospital for further treatment and authorities confirmed that one of the patients later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Authorities did not release the names of the deceased party and the hospitalized patients.

It’s unclear whether speeding or impairment played any role in the collision.

The accident remained under investigation by the Scottsdale Police Department.
