Apple Valley, CA – Authorities have identified the woman who died following a motorcycle crash on the Fourth of July in Apple Valley as 23-year-old Abril Farfan of Victorville, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:56 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, on Bear Valley Road, west of Iroquois Road.
According to investigators, 30-year-old Gary Copas of Victorville was riding a Yamaha R7 eastbound with Farfan as his passenger when a Nissan Titan, driven by 29-year-old Jesus Blancas of Apple Valley, entered Bear Valley Road and merged into the motorcycle’s lane. The motorcycle then struck the rear of the pickup, ejecting both riders.
Farfan and Copas sustained major injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Farfan later died from her injuries, while Copas remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Blancas and his pregnant passenger were not injured in the crash. Investigators said Blancas remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
Bear Valley Road was closed for approximately four hours between Itoya Vista Road and Iroquois Road while investigators processed the scene.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the fatal crash.
