Gavin Mundschau Arrested after Deadly Car Collision at California Ave and Chester Ln

Bakersfield, CA – 63-year-old Gregory Lee Fraley of Bakersfield died, and 23-year-old Gavin Mundschau was arrested after a DUI collision that happened early Sunday morning at an intersection in the city.

According to the Kern County Coroner’s Office, Fraley was involved in the crash around 12:06 a.m. on June 28, 2026, at California Avenue and Chester Lane.

Bakersfield police said Fraley was driving a silver BMW southbound on Chester Lane when a silver Mazda hatchback driven by Mundschau entered the intersection westbound against a red light and collided with the BMW.

Fraley was taken to Kern Medical, where he later died at 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Police determined that the driver of the Mazda was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Mundschau was treated for minor injuries and later arrested for DUI. He faces several charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, driving under the influence of alcohol 0.8% or more causing injury, and other traffic-related violations.
