Investigators reported that a bicyclist was traveling south in the No.2 lane of South H Street when he was struck from behind by a vehicle

Bakersfield, CA – A bicyclist was killed in a crash that happened early Saturday morning in Bakersfield.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the crash took place in the 4800 block of South H Street shortly before 1:34 a.m. on Saturday, June 20.
Investigators reported that a bicyclist was traveling south in the No.2 lane of South H Street when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. According to the report, the rider was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after and found an adult male down in the roadway.
The bicyclist was declared deceased at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. The driver was not suspected to have been impaired.
As authorities investigated the incident, another motorist went around the emergency vehicles blocking traffic and drove into the scene of the earlier accident.
The driver, identified as Franklin Rivas, 35, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
