Bakersfield, CA – The man who was killed in a collision between a vehicle and a bicycle in Bakersfield last month has been identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The incident took place at around 12:53 a.m. on June 20, in the area of Calloway Drive and Stockdale Highway.
According to the investigators, Gabriel Lopez Ortiz, 66, of Bakersfield, was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by a truck at the intersection. The exact circumstances under which the incident happened were not immediately released.
Lopez was transported to Kern Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities reported that DUI was suspected to have played a role in the accident. The driver of the truck, Tamera Elsie Popoy, 35, was arrested and booked on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The accident remained under investigation by the Bakersfield Police Department.
