Woman and Her Infant Killed in 2-Vehicle Collision at Phoenix Intersection

Phoenix, AZ – A pregnant woman and her newborn baby died after being injured in a traffic collision when their driver ran a red light late Saturday night at a Phoenix intersection.

The victims were identified as 19-year-old Leila Potts and her unborn son, Vincent.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the fatal wreck occurred around 11:30 p.m. on June 20, 2026, at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Beardsley Road, adjacent to Loop 101.

Potts was a passenger in a car that ran a red light at the intersection and collided with another vehicle traveling eastbound on Beardsley Road.

Responding paramedics rushed Potts to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Doctors delivered her baby, Vincent, but both the mother and the son died. The baby was a few weeks from his expected birth date.

Potts’s family opened a GoFundMe page to help them cover funeral expenses.

The driver of the car that Potts was riding in was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other car was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Investigators do not believe drugs and alcohol played a role in the collision.
