Phoenix, AZ – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver early Tuesday morning near an intersection in west Phoenix, authorities reported.

The incident took place around 2 a.m. on June 16, 2026, near 57th Avenue and McDowell Road.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the pedestrian was crossing mid-block when he was hit by a car.

The unidentified pedestrian suffered fatal injuries. Responding Phoenix Fire Department personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The driver involved stopped and remained at the scene. Investigators determined that the motorist showed signs of impairment. It was unclear if the suspect was arrested.
