Douglas County, OR – A 22-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision involving a passenger car and a log truck on Little River Road in Douglas County on Friday morning, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The fatal crash occurred just after 7:30 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, on Little River Road near Woodview Drive between mileposts 12 and 13.

Preliminary investigation findings indicate that a silver 2009 Hyundai Elantra, driven by John Metianu of Glide, was traveling northwest when the driver attempted to pass another northbound vehicle and crossed into the oncoming lane. The Hyundai then collided head-on with a southbound log truck operated by 54-year-old Jeffrey Johnson of Roseburg.

Metianu suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Johnson was not injured in the collision.

Investigators said there were no initial indications that intoxicants played a role in the crash. The exact circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

Deputies and emergency personnel responded to the scene and investigated the fatal crash. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Glide Rural Fire Protection District and the Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The collision impacted traffic along Little River Road as authorities worked to investigate the scene and clear the roadway.

The fatal Douglas County crash remains under investigation. Authorities said next-of-kin notifications have been completed.
