Sylmar, CA – One person was critically injured, and two others were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash involving two big rigs on the 210 Freeway in Sylmar early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The collision was reported at about 1:48 a.m. on the eastbound 210 Freeway near the Roxford Street exit.
Authorities said the crash involved two big rigs and multiple additional vehicles. Emergency crews arriving at the scene found one of the big rigs hanging over an embankment and another victim trapped inside a truck. The exact sequence of events leading up to the collision was not immediately released.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel extricated the trapped victim from the wreckage before the individual was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Two additional victims sustained injuries described as fair and were also taken to hospitals for treatment. No arrests were reported.
Several firefighters responded to the scene along with CHP officers. Caltrans crews and Hazmat personnel also responded and worked to clear diesel fuel and debris from the freeway.
The collision caused major traffic disruptions in the area after all eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway near Roxford Street were shut down for several hours during the investigation and cleanup operation.
The incident remains under investigation.
