Colusa County, CA – Two people were killed in a head-on collision Friday night on Highway 20 near Williams, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash happened at approximately 10:24 p.m. on May 8, along State Route 20 just west of King Road.

CHP dispatch logs indicate that a white sedan and a black SUV collided head-on, leaving debris and broken glass scattered across the roadway. One of the vehicles was reportedly emitting smoke following the impact.

According to authorities, two people died in the collision. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Officials with the California Highway Patrol and the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Tow trucks were also requested for both damaged vehicles.

Due to the severity of the crash, Highway 20 was shut down in both directions at about 10:33 p.m. as investigators processed the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway.

Investigators later arrested one of the drivers, identified as Keith Wittlake of Garberville, on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The suspect’s bail was set at $250,000.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
