Modesto, CA – A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a Union Pacific train in Modesto early Thursday morning, according to the authorities.
The incident was reported just before 5 a.m. on May 7, near Murphy Road and Salida Boulevard.
Authorities reported that a pedestrian, for unknown reasons, was on the tracks when they were hit by a train. The victim was not at a railroad crossing when the incident happened.
Multiple agencies, including the Modesto Police Department, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, Union Pacific Railroad Police, and Modesto Fire Department, responded to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident.
The involved pedestrian died at the scene of the crash. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the victim’s identity once their next-of-kin has been notified.
No one on the train was injured in the collision.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to ascertain the circumstances of the deadly crash.
