San Diego, CA. – A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a car as he rode an e-bike in San Diego on Saturday evening.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the accident happened around 5:40 p.m. on Del Mar Heights Road at Old Carmel Valley Road.

The 12-year-old was riding the e-bike westbound in the bike lane of Del Mar Heights Road when he attempted to make a left-hand-turn onto Old Carmel Valley when he was struck by the front passenger side of a 2023 Tesla Model Y driven by a 64-year-old man.

The boy suffered life-threatening injuries including multiple brain bleeds that required surgery, in addition to a fractured clavicle.

Alcohol was reportedly not a factor in the crash.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
