Torrance, CA – One Person Seriously Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 110 Near Carson Street

Torrance, CA – At least one person was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Interstate 110 in Torrance on Thursday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at about 2:27 p.m. on April 30 on northbound Interstate 110 just south of West Carson Street.

As per the CHP, four vehicles, including a school bus and a big rig, were involved in the crash.  Authorities said the school bus reportedly lost control while entering the northbound lanes from the Carson Street on-ramp and collided with multiple vehicles, including at least one Mustang, before striking a wall. One vehicle was found leaning against the center divider.

At least one person sustained major injuries in the crash. The total number of injured individuals was not immediately confirmed. No arrests were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials have not yet determined what caused the school bus driver to lose control.

Emergency responders, including the Los Angeles County Fire Department, arrived at the scene and found all northbound lanes initially blocked. A SigAlert was issued for three to four lanes for an unknown duration as crews worked to clear the wreckage and debris, including nails reported on the roadway.

The crash caused significant traffic disruptions in the area, with all lanes blocked at one point before partial reopening began around 3:00 p.m. Authorities required multiple tow trucks, including heavy-duty units, to remove the damaged vehicles. Lanes were gradually reopened after crews cleared debris and swept the roadway.

The incident remains under investigation.
