show a notable frequency of injury-related collisions despite the city’s small population. A Local Roadway Safety Plan based on data reported to the California Highway Patrol indicates that between 2017 and 2021, there were 728 total reported crashes, with only about 1% resulting in fatalities, while the majority involved injuries, particularly 60% classified as “complaint of pain” and 36% as visible injuries. More recent figures from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) show that in 2023 alone, there were 238 fatal and injury victims, ranking the city 2nd out of 103 similar-sized cities, with significant contributions from alcohol-related crashes (32 cases), speed-related collisions (34), and hit-and-run incidents (20). Police-reported crash logs also demonstrate that accidents frequently involve multiple vehicles and often result in injuries, underscoring ongoing road safety concerns in the area. Overall, these official reports highlight that while fatal crashes are relatively rare, injury collisions, especially those linked to speeding and impaired driving, remain a persistent issue in Signal Hill.
In the wake of a tragic loss, families are urged to consult with a legal professional to explore their rights and determine the best path forward fully.
